Weekly Breakfast Ride

THURSDAY  Dec 15th

The Thursday breakfast riders departed from Mickey D’s North for a chilly ride to Golden Valley. Upon arrival we enjoyed  some good country cooking at Caroline’s Country CafĂ©. http://carolinescountrycafe.com/.

We had a larger group of riders join us today. Welcome Clem’s wife Debra and Dan & Anita.
I chose a traditional eggs, hash browns, sausage with wheat toast and coffee. I must not forget my salsa concoction, I added chopped jalapenos to the salsa. Yum Yum..

After breakfast, we saddled up and said our good bye’s.

Ralph, Paul, Ronnie and I headed to the Boot Barn in Kingman to try on some Black Carhartt quilt lined bib’s. They didn’t have our size in stock. So, we placed an order for them and I’m looking forward to having them for cold weather riding.
After that we headed to the local Harley shop so Ralph could drop off his ride to have new shoes installed. Then came the best part of the whole day.
Ralph riding on the back of a Yamaha trike. OMG…
I just had to take a few more shots.

SORRY RALPH, THE DEVIL MADE ME DO THIS….

We then headed back to BHC and dropped Ralph off at home. Even after taking those photos, he still invited us in for coffee. I’m looking forward to our next breakfast ride.

River Riders M/C 28th Annual Toy Run

River Riders M/C 28th Annual Toy Run

SUNDAY DEC  4th

Ralph and I hooked up in Fort Mohave for a chilly ride to Parker,Az.  For the 28th Annual Toy Run. http://www.golakehavasu.com/events/details/481/river-riders-mc-28th-annual-toy-run/
After 2 stops for “nature calls” and a cup of coffee to warm up we arrived at the Blue Bar II for the run to Lake Havasu City.

There were an estimated 300 bikes participating in the charity bike run.
After dropping off the toys we headed to the Golden Horseshoe for lunch.

We had our choice of seating as the lunch crowd had already departed.

After looking over an excellent soup and salad bar, I just had to try their Pepper Jack cheese with green chili burger and fries. Oh, and a cup of seasoned pinto beans from the salad bar. I told Ralph this place was a ‘keeper” and that I would do the soup and salad Bar next time. We have a planned Thursday ride for lunch here on the 15th with the rest of our riding partners.
Here is some video I took of the toy run.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0p42ktKVuU
There was an accident along the route involving 3 bikers. http://www.havasunews.com/articles/2011/12/05/news/doc4edc4c017ea4f056648406.txt

Bullhead City, AZ Veterans Day Parade

SATURDAY  NOV 5th
Paul and I met up and rode to the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast. We enjoyed pancakes, sausage and coffee prior to attending the parade. He participated in the parade and I set up along the parade route. I was able to take video of the Patriot Guard Riders and most other participants in the parade.
Ralph and Ronnie stopped by before going on to the PGR staging area.

Then Chuck stopped and asked what I was doing standing on the corner of the parade route. He then continued to the PGR staging area.
This video is a condensed version of the original. I've trimmed it down to a more manageable size. It's 5.4 minutes and 25 Mb in size.

Breakfast Ride to the Red Onion in Lake Havasu City

THURSDAY  OCT 27th

Our regular breakfast bunch departed at 0800 for a ride to Lake Havasu City
to enjoy breakfast at the Red Onion Restaurant.

While placing our breakfast orders, I got this photo of Ralph and our server.

Now for the final photo that ya’ll have come to expect from me.

I had their traditional Eggs Benedict with home fries. Not my normal fare,
but I would definitely have it again.

Time to update my BLOG

THURSDAY OCT 6th

The hot summer weather is (hopefully) finally over and cooler weather is upon us. It’s been almost 3 months of 100 plus degree weather here. Not real good for riding, or doing much of anything. Except for staying inside with A/C running full blast.

This was the first summer in 7 years that we stayed home, after our aborted getaway to Ft. Huachuca where we planned to spend most of the summer. The forest fires were cause for an evacuation of the base RV park.

And that also meant having nothing to add to my Blog. I did ride a couple of times for coffee very early in the mornings before the temperatures rose above 100.

After the aborted trip to the Tail of the Dragon in early September, it was back home and waiting for it to cool down. Paul and I made it as far as Island Park, ID when his ride started acting up. He decided we should head back to Boise where he had purchased the new Spyder so they could make needed repairs. I chose to head home as I didn’t want to sit around for an unknown length of time while the problems were isolated and repairs were made to his ride. Glad I did as it was almost two weeks before he got his ride back.

This morning the temperature was in the high 50’s to mid 60’s, so I decided on a ride to Oatman http://www.welcometooatman.com/ then onto Old Highway 66 toward Kingman. I took some video of the ride but the road was so bumpy that even with video stabilization it wasn’t good enough to publish. I was able to get snapshots within the video to make a short movie. On the way home, I stopped for coffee in Golden Valley and was glad for the break as my new helmet was giving me a headache.

Las Vegas for lunch with Danna

THURSDAY July 14th

Danna had suggested we go to Las Vegas for lunch at the new Steak ‘n Shake that opened earlier this year in the South Point Casino.

We were on our way about 0900 hrs and had decided to take the scenic route (not really) thru Nipton, CA to I-15 and arrived at our destination around 1100 hrs. We did see one grungy coyote along the way.

I have not seen this sign since our last trip back to the Midwest. I almost got homesick just looking at it that is until I remembered the heat and humidity associated with growing up in Illinois. It definitely brought back memories of an earlier time in my life. I once even worked as a carhop (for about one hour) until I figured out it wasn’t the job for me.

Over the years when I’ve returned to visit family and friends, I’ve made it a point to have a burger at every one of the restaurants I go by.

This is a photo of the only one I’ve seen or visited that is not a freestanding building.

After all the above extraneous verbiage, here is what I gobbled up for lunch.

The vanilla milkshake was yummy and the burger was as I remembered. But, I’m not real sure I would drive 260 miles again to get another steakburger.
Oh, and I lost $40.00 dollars in the slot machines. Lunch for both of us was only $13.67 so that helped to take some of the sting out of losing at the slots.

But, all in all I had a fun time spending the day with Danna.

Our short stay and early departure from Ft. Huachuca, AZ

FRIDAY June 17th

Tuesday and Wednesday we rode around Sierra Vista and familiarized ourselves with the city and local businesses. The girls also did some shopping. I also got my new glasses on Wednesday. They were not ready when we departed from Laughlin, so I had them shipped to the local Nationwide Vision Center in Sierra Vista.

Thursday we got an early start to do some sightseeing. Our first destination was Bisbee, Az. I’ll call it the “Bisbee Bust” as we all agreed it was a waste of time and gas to see it. It definitely will not be on my “Bucket List” for any future adventures.

From Bisbee we headed to Tombstone, AZ. What a world of difference in the sights and things to do and see.

Here are a few photos I took while there.

It was getting close to lunch time after our arrival, so when the restaurant opened at 1100 hrs., we were ready to try their burgers. One of the salesladies in a nearby shop recommended the burgers.

So we dropped in at the Crystal Palace to give them a try.

Our waitress was dressed in the period as was the marshal.

I got so excited when I saw my burger, I just dove in and started eating without taking the customary photo of my meal. I told the girls we would have to do a return trip so I could indulge in another one and get a photo before taking a bite. We planned on a return trip either on Sunday or the following Monday.

Before we left Tombstone we visited “Boot Hill” where the remains of the Earp Clanton battle are buried.

After the fantastic, humongous, delicious burger I was so full all I had a salad for dinner.

Well, the return trip didn’t happen. The next day the girls headed back to Sierra Vista for more shopping and cruising the mall. Just before they got back, I was notified the order had been given to pack up and prepare for an evacuation. The fire had gotten to the base golf course and they had already closed the main gate.

Here is the latest information on the Sierra Vista fire:

Here is a short film clip with music.

We decided that since we had to pack up and get ready to evacuate we would just go ahead and leave. After about 45 minutes, in stop and go traffic, we reached the East gate and were on our way home.
